A recent SEIU survey found that 85% of fast food workers in California were victims of wage theft from employers denying paid breaks and withholding overtime pay. This is not an isolated problem that involves a few bad apples. Wage theft impacts hundreds of thousands of Californians and millions of Americans, particularly Black, brown and immigrant workers overwhelmingly represented in the industry.

No person should have to not only work for wages below a livable standard, but face such exploitation at the hands of their employers. AB 257, the FAST Recovery Act, would provide fast food workers a voice in setting minimum health, safety, and employment standards while holding franchisors and major food chains accountable for these guidelines.
